The Salon COVID Screening Protocol You Need to be Using
I wasn’t ready when I got “The Call”. No one was prepared to have a hair salon COVID-19 screening question protocol.
Maybe you’re not ready either. What is the proper protocol when a contact tracer calls to tell you that someone was CoVID-19 positive when they were recently in the salon? Is it what your State/County tells you to do? Is it something you can create yourself? Do you have a plan? Is it a good one?
I feel as if we are in the eye of the storm right now. We are on the brink of these calls coming in more frequently, especially as more people are getting tested. What if there was one question you could be asking clients that would help you to avoid this situation?
I can honestly say, I wasn’t prepared at all. But I am now. I have created a downloadable PDF born out of the Lessons Learned from my recent experience. Here’s what it contains:
- The “Correct” CoVID-19 Screening Question
- How to write a CoVID-19 Screening Questionnaire
- How to ensure every client gets screened before they come in
- What’s the Protocol after Exposure
- Who are the most Important People to Reach out to
- And most importantly: Homework! To help get you prepared
It is time to prepare an actionable protocol and screening questions for our salons. The official advice from the CDC is to quarantine for 14 days, but is that what you are prepared to do financially? That call, that terrible call, can ruin your life. Not because you’re sick… no, you wear plenty of PPE and you disinfect everything. That call can kill your business if it happens enough.

Here’s a sneak peek into what’s in the PDF for your hair salon COVID Screening Question Protocol:
The Most Important CoVID-19 Screening Question for your protocol
I wasn’t asking my clients the right question. Most of the COVID-19 screening questions are about symptoms and exposure. But there’s one very obvious behavioral question I should have been asking all along:
“Have you been tested for CoVID-19 in the past 14 days?”
You know why I wasn’t asking that? Because I thought if someone had recently been tested for CoVID-19 and they were awaiting their test results, why on earth would they come to get their hair done? Well, News Flash: They Will! More and more clients are getting tested frequently for a variety of reasons, and it’s not because they think they might be sick.
- If they have plane travel coming up- Tested
- If they have a surgery coming up – Tested
- If they are just curious – Tested
- If their son is super paranoid and won’t let them visit their grandkids – Tested
But here’s the punchline: The client that gets a test because they don’t think they are sick, that’s the client that is going to lay this on your doorstep. Since they don’t think they have COVID, they are just living their life business as usual. But a few days go by and they get those results, that’s the client that’s going to call you SHOCKED that it was positive.
So ask them! If they answer that question with anything other than “No” you need to reschedule them.
